Jennifer Lynn Lopez (born July 24, 1969), also known by her nickname J.Lo, is an American actress, singer, record producer, dancer, television personality, fashion designer and television producer. Lopez began her career as a dancer on the television comedy program In Living Color. Subsequently venturing into acting, she gained recognition in the 1995 action-thriller Money Train.

Her first leading role was in the biographical film Selena (1997), in which she earned an ALMA Award for Outstanding Actress. She earned her second ALMA Award for her performance in Out of Sight (1998). She has since starred in various films, including The Wedding Planner (2001), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Shall We Dance? (2004), Monster-in-Law (2005), and The Back-up Plan (2010).

Lopez came to prominence within the music industry following the release of her debut studio album On the 6 (1999) which spawned the number one hit single "If You Had My Love". Her second studio album J.Lo (2001) was a commercial success, selling eight million copies worldwide. J to tha L–O!: The Remixes (2002) became her second consecutive album to debut at number one on the Billboard 200 while her third and fourth studio albums – This Is Me... Then (2002) and Rebirth (2005) – peaked at number two on the Billboard 200. In 2007, she released two albums including her first full Spanish-language album Como ama una Mujer, and her fifth English studio album Brave. Lopez returned to music and released her seventh studio album, titled Love?, on April 19, 2011. Its single "On the Floor" has impacted charts worldwide. Her contributions to the music industry have garnered her numerous achievements including two Grammy Award nominations; two Latin Grammy Award nominations; three American Music Awards, amongst six nominations; and the estimated sale of over 55 million records worldwide. Billboard ranked her as the 27th Artist of the 2000s decade. Lending her musical knowledge to others, Lopez is currently a member of the judging panel of American reality television competition American Idol.

She led People en Español's list of "100 Most Influential Hispanics" in February 2007. She has parlayed her media fame into a fashion line and various perfumes with her celebrity endorsement. A fashion icon, several of her dresses have received considerable media attention, most notably the Jungle green Versace dress which she wore at the 43rd Grammy Awards in 2000 which has been voted the 5th most iconic dress of all time. Outside of her work in the entertainment industry, Lopez advocates human rights, vaccinations and is a supporter of Children's Hospital Los Angeles. In 2011, she was named the most "Beautiful Person" by People magazine in its annual issue.

From her 2007 pregnancy Lopez had been writing her seventh studio album, Love?; release had been planned for Summer 2010. It features productions from Danja, Jim Jonsin, Darkchild, Chris n Teeb (from Dropzone), Tricky Stewart, The-Dream, D'Mile Mike Caren, Jean Baptiste and The Neptunes. A song titled "Fresh Out the Oven" featuring Miami rapper Pitbull surfaced online in October 2009 but her record label said that it was simply a buzz single. It has since topped the Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The project's official lead single, "Louboutins", had its radio debut on November 23, 2009, following the song's premiere and performance at the 2009 American Music Awards. The song only managed to enter the Hot Dance Club Play chart six weeks after release and reaching number 1, however, it failed to enter any other chart, including the Billboard Hot 100. In late February 2010, it was confirmed that Lopez and Epic Records have parted ways.

Lopez's manager, Benny Medina confirmed the news saying "Jennifer had a wonderful relationship with the Sony Music Group, and they have shared many successes together, but the time was right to make a change that best serves the direction of her career as an actress and recording artist, she is grateful and appreciative to everyone at Sony for all that they accomplished together." Lopez later released a statement to the media where she said that she had already completed her contractual obligations with Sony Music Entertainment and Epic Records and decided it was for the best to end the partnership on amicable terms. She added that she found a new "home" for the album 'Love?' and it will be coming out Summer 2010. Shortly after being spotted talking to Island Def Jam Music Group's chairman and CEO L.A. Reid, it was confirmed on March 19, 2010 that Lopez signed with Island Def Jam, and is working on new material for Love? with RedZone Entertainment (Kuk Harrell, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart). In January 2011, Lopez released a new lead single titled "On the Floor" featuring Pitbull, it achieved worldwide success on the charts, peaking at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Lopez her first top ten on the chart since "All I Have" in 2003. The album Love? was released on May 3, 2011.

Jennifer Lopez , Anthony not to attend launch of clothing line

London, Aug 20 : Singer-actress Jennifer Lopez and her estranged husband Marc Anthony have decided not to get back together for the launch of their clothing line.

The couple were meant to join retail giant Kohl's to release a range of clothing in September, but now Lopez and Anthony have decided that they won't be there, reports TV news show Extra.

Kohl's will still be launching the Jennifer Lopez Collection and the Marc Anthony Collection Sep 7, contactmusic.com reports.

Scientology behind JLo, Marc split?

London, Aug 14 : Singer Jennifer Lopez's commitment to Scientology is said to be the reason behind her split with husband Marc Anthony as the couple quarrelled over her wish to send their three-year-old twins, Max and Emme, to a Scientology school.

"Jennifer and Marc couldn't see eye-to-eye on the subject. She's always been more into the church than him. He wasn't a huge fan and it caused problems," dailymail.co.uk quoted a source as saying.

JLo is close friends with Hollywood couple Tom Cruise and his wife Katie Holmes, who are staunch Scientologists.

The 42-year-old said in one of her recent interviews that she "wouldn't mind" having her twins educated by the church, adding: "I just wish that people wouldn't judge it without knowing what it is."

JLo's marriage had been in trouble for some time and the couple announced July 15 that they were splitting.

Jennifer Lopez joins 'Parker' cast

London, Aug 9 : Actress Jennifer Lopez has signed up to star opposite to Jason Statham in "Parker".

JLo, who took a three-year break from films before making Alan Poul's "The Back-Up Plan" last year, will join actor Jason Statham along with Nick Nolte for forthcoming noirthriller.

The 42-year old will play a real estate agent, while Nolte will be a mentor to Statham's title character in the movie, which is an adaptation of Donald Westlake's 2000 book Flashfire.

Describing JLo's role, director Taylor Hackford told the Hollywood Reporter: "She plays a real estate agent who finds that a little larceny may in fact be in the cards for her."

Patti LuPone, Emma Booth, Michael Chiklis, Wendell Pierce and Clifton Collins Jr will also star in the movie.

The filming of the movie will start in New Orleans this week and the flick is set to release in October, next year.

Jennifer Lopez beats Anthony-split blues with Miami b'day celebration

Washington, July 25 : Jennifer Lopez has chased away the blues caused by her recent split from husband Marc Anthony, by celebrating her 42nd birthday in Miami.

Lopez and her entourage of 16, which included her mother, sister, manager and stylist, enjoyed a lavish dinner at Scott Conant's restaurant, Scarpetta, inside the Fontainebleau hotel

"Jennifer looked radiant in a purple and silver evening dress," People magazine quoted a source as saying.

"And when they brought out her birthday cake after the meal, she began to sing. She was very happy. The whole group had a blast, staying for hours. They closed down the restaurant," the source added.

Lopez and seven others had also enjoyed a pre-birthday dinner at the Wine Cellar of the Forge on Miami Beach.

Jennifer Lopez demands 21m dollars matching Simon Cowell to return to 'American Idol'

London, July 26 : Pop star Jennifer Lopez has demanded 21 million dollars to continue as a judge on the ‘American Idol’.

The 42-year-old singer, who recently broke up with her husband Marc Anthony, gave the show’s bosses a tough time last week after it was learnt that she would not make a comeback to the hit ITV2 series.

However, the executives claimed that the star has returned to the negotiating table - and admitted they were confident she would return.

“We’re in good shape. No worries. No dark clouds on the horizon,” the Sun quoted show boss Cecile Frot-Coutaz as saying.

However, the negotiation will cost the bosses a big sum as sources now have suggested that Lopez has claimed an equal amount to what Simon Cowell had been earning when he was a judge on the Fox TV show – 21 million dollars.

Lopez received 8 million dollars, nearly three times less than Cowell, last time.

London, July 23 : Simon Cowell was stunned when Jennifer Lopez's marriage to Marc Anthony ended, as he never thought their "bickering" was a sign of more serious problems.

The couple announced the end of their seven-year union last week. They revealed the decision to part ways was "painful" but "amicable".

Cowell was Lopez's predecessor as a judge on "American Idol".

"I didn't see it coming. They always seemed to get on. They would bicker, but everyone bickers," contactmusic.com quoted Cowell as saying.

Dominating Marc Anthony 'hated the fact that Jennifer Lopez was a sex symbol'

London, July 20 : It has emerged that Marc Anthony hated the fact that Jennifer Lopez was a sex symbol, and he constantly tried to control her wardrobe.

Reports said that the 42-year-old Latin singer wanted his wife to look a little more demure when it came to her wardrobe. 

“He would make her feel terrible about herself if she wanted to wear something sexy,” the Daily Mail quoted a source as telling Us Weekly.

“He likes her to dress in a demure, ‘wife’ style. He hated the fact that she was a sex symbol,” the source said.

Another source revealed that Anthony tried to make fashion choices for her when she took part in a photo shoot last year. 

Anthony is said to have objected to a particular photograph that he found “too sexy and unbecoming for a 40-year-old mother of two,” the insider stated. 

“Marc has always been a very dominating husband. He wants to control everything Jennifer does,” another source added.

Jennifer Lopez, Anthony's clothing line to go ahead

London, July 20 : Singer Jennifer Lopez and her estranged husband Marc Anthony will go head with their new fashion range, despite the spilt.

The couple - who announced their separation last week - had earlier signed a deal to create a clothing and accessories line for Kohl's with Tommy Hilfiger, scheduled for launch in September.

Although their designs were set to be a collaborative effort, Lopez will now work on the women's collection while Anthony will work on the menswear, reports contactmusic.com.

"The Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony brands have always been positioned as two separate, distinctive collections that offer high-quality contemporary style for men and women, and we look forward to a successful September launch," said a spokesperson.

'Brad Pitt of Cuba' denies affair being behind Jennifer Lopez's split

London, July 19 : A male model, who was seen in Jennifer Lopez’s new video ‘I’m Into You’, has denied claims of having an affair with the pop star.

Known as the ‘Brad Pitt of Cuba’, William Levy made a shirtless appearance in the pop star’s video, which was filmed in Mexico in April.

Lopez, 41, was shown cosying up to him in sensual beach scenes filmed at Turtle Beach in the same video.

But now, the 30-year-old has dismissed reports that he has been dating the star, who announced her separation for Marc Anthony last Friday. 

“The only relationship there was or is, is a professional relationship. That’s all there’s ever been,” the Daily Mail quoted a spokesperson for Levy as telling TMZ.

Levy reportedly separated from his wife of eight years, Elizabeth Gutierrez, a month after the shoot.

London, July 18 : Singer Jennifer Lopez and estranged husband Marc Anthony's reality show will go ahead despite their split.

The former couple wanted to start a massive global tour in order to find the best Latin wannabes for their new TV show "Q'viva! The Chosen".

According to spokesman for Xix  Entertainment, the company which pioneered the reality programme has rubbished reports that project has been thrown into jeopardy after their split.

"They're both committed to Q'viva! and will work on it as planned. The show goes on," contactmusic.com quote the representative as saying.

Washington, July 15 : Jennifer Lopez is set to turn men working for a towing company in Miami, Florida into TV stars.

Lopez, 41, is the producer of new reality TV series ‘South Beach Tow’, which debuts in America next week.

The programme revolves around Robert Ashenoff and his family towing company, which impounds cars parked illegally all over the city.

“We shot a teaser reel on the family, I showed it to her, and she loved them,” Contactmusic quoted executive producer Simon Fields, who came across the firm when employees towed his car, as saying.

Jennifer Lopez to return to 'American Idol'?

Washington, July 11 : Jennifer Lopez is reportedly staying on as a judge on ‘American Idol’ following her continued involvement with the show.

According to E! Online, Lopez, 41, has allegedly signed on the dotted line for the 11th season of the Fox show, and will be joining current judges, Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler.

She had initially told Radio One DJ Scott Mills that she was unsure about her future on the Idol judging panel.


“I don’t know. I haven’t been forced to make a decision and I’m glad about that because honestly I’m very on the fence about it,” Radar Online quoted her as telling Mills.


“I had an amazing time doing it and I loved it, but I have a lot of other things happening and it’s going to come down to me making a decision of what I want to do for the next year,” she added.

London, July 3 : Jennifer Lopez has launched a new perfume 'Love and Light' with the support from her mother.

The mother-daughter duo appeared on HSN live to unveil Lopez's latest fragrance, which is the America Idol judge's 10th perfume.

The Spanish beauty said that she wants the perfume to channel what's inside each of us.

"With Love and Light, I wanted to create a fragrance that was less about the world around you and more about your inner light and your spirit," the Daily Mail quoted her as saying.

"'It's about how you feel inside, it's not about your outside world," she added.

The perfume will retail for 58 dollars and would become available in department stores this September.

Jennifer Lopez may quit 'American Idol' under hubby's pressure

Washington, June 26 : It has emerged that Jennifer Lopez may not return to judge the 'American Idol' because her husband Marc Anthony wants her to quit the show.

According to EntertainmentWise, a source said Marc Anthony is 'pushing Lopez to quit Idol because he wants her to spend more time with him and their children," reports Contact music.

The source added that the actress and singer "is ready to commit to a few more seasons, because she loves the job and the money, but Marc wants her to quit so she can spend more time with him."

Jennifer Lopez claims banned video is not a 'sex tape'

Washington, June 20 : Jennifer Lopez has claimed that the personal video that her ex- husband Ojani Noa was trying to sell was not a sex tape.

The 41-year-old singer admitted that it was upsetting that Noa, whom she had split with after less than a year of marriage in 1998, would try to sell it in the first place.

Although Lopez’s ex-husband has been banned from releasing the tape, which reportedly contains 27 hours of footage, she has insisted that it is not a sex tape.

“My first husband has tapes of us from our life. It''s horrible. It''s horrible someone would try to sell personal things, but there''s nothing on it. There''s no sex tape,” Contactmusic quoted her as telling Culture magazine.
